We talk to adults and use our normal tone of voice, normal vocabulary, and normal gestures, but all of a sudden we see a friend's baby or pick up our young child and get into a kind of trance.

Our tone becomes plump, vocabulary transforms, and we shorten words and the gestures become tremendously exaggerated while we say things like: who is the prettiest baby? Let's see how my boy says mamaaaaa?

When we are with children we lengthen vowels, we put a more melodious voice and we bring out our higher tone. Do we use that tone because we think they will understand us better? Why will it be more loving and kind to them? Why do we believe that the meaning of what we say is clearer like this? Well, it is the opposite, a survey carried out by the Iken Institute of Brain Sciences in Japan in collaboration with the Laboratories of Sciences and Cognitive Psychology of Paris has shown that this speech is not clear to baby.

They analyzed 22 Japanese mothers at different times: when they were talking to other adults and when they were communicating with their children. The recordings of these speeches resulted in the message conveyed to children being less clear than that of adults. Using a childish voice, therefore, speaking with diminutives or copying the wrong words of children is not the most appropriate for the correct development of the child's speech.

To arouse the interest of the child or capture their attention while promoting language development, tricks such as:

- Avoid a monotonous tone and speak to them in a melodious voice.

- Use gestures and facial expressions, which are also another form of communication.

- Always speak looking at the child so that he sees our face.

- Give the child time to answer even if it seems that he will never finish, help him if necessary, but never cut him off.

- Correct the words that he says wrong but not use them because we find it funny.

According to this study, sometimes babies do not understand what we say when we are trying precisely to get our message, but this father does know how to do it. Your baby has not been born yet but is already obeying you and seems to understand what you are saying. amazing!
