TheJune 13th is celebrated on European Day for the Prevention of Skin Cancer with the aim of making the population aware of the importance of preventing this disease from childhood and, especially, raising awareness among adolescents, since they tend to sunbathe without precaution and in a rather carefree way.

Every year between two and three million cases of non-melanoma skin tumors are diagnosed in the world and it is estimated that one in six people will develop some type of skin cancer in their lifetime.

Every year there is a European campaign to fight against skin cancer. For this, it has two fundamental weapons: prevention and early detection. In 2014, for example, the slogan of the campaign was 'skin cancer has many faces, its prevention and treatment, too'.

However, a focus of attention for parents must be children, since their delicate skin can be subject to severe burns if the necessary sun protection measures are not applied. In addition, skin cancer or melanoma is a disease that must be fought from an early age.

- Extreme protection measures for children by regularly using sunscreen with a factor of +30. It must be applied before leaving home, and the application must be repeated frequently if the child is at the beach or pool.

- Cover the delicate skin of the child with a t-shirt, cap and even approved glasses.

- Do not expose the child to the sun in the central hours of the day: between 12 and 16 hours.

If prevention has failed, there is still a second way to fight cancer and that is to detect it early:

- If there is a mole on the skin that has changed in shape, size or color, it is necessary to go to the dermatology consultation.

- If there are moles that are different from the rest or have a rough touch.

- The mole has various colors, itches or even bleeds.
