How time flies: your baby is five months old! During this time he has grown a lot and seems like a different baby: he smiles a lot, fixes his gaze, looks for you with those eyes that he has so beautiful, he begins to want to interact with those around him ... Without a doubt every day he is more smart! Do you want to know more about how is the development of a five month old baby? Keep reading!

As for his mobility, the baby has experienced great mobility, as he is strong enough to lift the upper half of his body by supporting his arms. Sleeping, he also moves and may turn over if you leave him alone in the crib. By the way, maybe it is a time to start thinking about moving to his room if he still sleeps in yours and creating his own space.

He will show his desire to catch something harder, and he will get angry and growl if he doesn't succeed. His character is already forging! He likes to get your attention, because he knows that you will come looking for him.

He loves to be held, pampered and spent time with him in his little 'amusement park'. To improve your stimuliRespond to his call every time he calls you and talks while you go to him so that he becomes aware of your closeness. For example, when you change her diaper, explain everything you are doing, how you are doing it, and why you are doing it.

You may notice that he is no longer comfortable in the stroller and that the sitting position all the time makes him uncomfortable. Now is the time to change it to the stroller so that it can continue exploring the world, but for your safety, place it facing you.

These are great milestones that your baby will achieve little by little at five months, but we must not forget that there can be many differences in the psychomotor development of some children and others. We must respect the rhythm of each one, but always encouraging this evolution and not comparing with other babies. Only in the event that we notice something strange (for example that at this age does not laugh), go to the doctor.

He no longer smiles at everyone. Something changes in their behavior. He smiles in front of a familiar face and at the same time is serious and fearful or embarrassing in the presence of people you don't know. His perception is careful, because the baby can differentiate a voice kind of a less kind and react to them in different ways.

At this stage, start the game with his feet (put him in the bathtub and you will see what he enjoys). At this stage of their development, the moment they look at and identify themselves in the mirror takes place. He may freak out at first, but then he will want to touch and lick him, smile in front of him, and start making all kinds of sounds.

Already does farts and he emits sounds and words ('ejj', 'ma' 'da' ...) and he will acquire a habit that parents, at first, will amuse us but that can end up driving us out of our minds: throwing everything on the ground. And it is that for him everything will be a happy and fun game.

The fact that the baby is having more movements will make him turn over at night and that, at times, you find him face down. You already know that the best and, to avoid sudden death, it is recommended that the child sleep on his back. Always try to place it facing the ceiling or from the side.

We can reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, in addition to the position that we put the baby, following these tips: not smoking in front of him (it seems obvious, but not all parents respect it), not using pillows or putting objects near him, buying a firm mattress, not sheltering him in excess, controlling the temperature of the room (between 20-22 degrees) and, whenever possible, continuing with breastfeeding.

As for the hours of sleep, we are going to tell you what a five-month-old baby 'should sleep', but also what happens in many cases. Supposedly they already have a marked sleep pattern and would sleep between 15 and 18 hours, at night (up to six hours in a row) and at naps (about three a day).

What happens if this is not fulfilled? Why is my baby not sleeping well? Perhaps you have changed his routine (you have joined work) or this habit of going to bed may not have settled in him yet. If so, this is the time!

Formerly at this age they were already beginning to introduce solids, but we still have to wait a month. As explained by the Spanish Association of Pediatrics in its report 'Practical guide for parents', the opportune moment to introduce complementary feeding is around six months of age. The early incorporation of complementary feeding results in a decrease in the total amount of breast milk, which results in a lower energy intake.

If you've started breastfeeding, stick with it for as long as you can! It is the best gift you can give your child! But if your baby is bottle-fed by his own decision or through no fault of his own, nothing happens! There are many other ways to give your love and affection.

In both cases, in the next month's review, at six months, the pediatrician will tell you if your baby is ready to start eating other things (if he can sit up with support and the extrusion reflex has disappeared) and how the introduction should be carried out of complementary feeding and how to incorporate different foods into the diet: cereals, vegetables, fruits, fish ... And, very importantly, the baby cannot yet be given water because his kidneys are in the process of maturing.

The baby has more and more ability to play and relate, so stimulation games are ideal for this stage of his life. You can lay the baby on his stomach (you will notice that he is able to lift his head and his trunk a little) and leave a toy near him for him to try to pick it up.

Singing to the baby, playing classical music, giving him massages or letting him touch objects of different textures are activities that will relax the baby, entertain him and also stimulate his senses.

You'll find that she doesn't need fancy toys to have a fun and enjoyable time with her parents. The simplest things are the ones that will catch your eye. The most important thing for him is that his mother and father (or their caregivers) are with him.

More proposals for activities that will stimulate their hearing, their sight or their touch and that you can do together and that you will both love are:

- Give him kisses with his hands.

- Stick your tongue out and in while we look at you.

- Make noise with your lips.

- Take their hands and join them until they touch.

- Pull gently on your forearms to bring you to a sitting position.

- Apply a little pressure to the soles of your feet to make an effort to extend your legs.

- Put an object in his hand and take it off when he picks it up.
